History

Interstate Transportation Equipment, Inc … the past, present, and future.

In 1947, what is now the oldest school and commercial bus dealership in North and South Carolina was established in Columbia, South Carolina under the name of Superior Sales Inc.

Superior Sales Inc. was the exclusive dealer for Superior Buses manufactured in Lima, Ohio. In addition to school buses, Superior also manufactured, and Superior Sales distributed, ambulances and coaches to the funeral home industry.

When the South Carolina Department of Education began transporting students to public schools in the late 1950s, many of the first buses were provided by Superior Sales. The company continued to operate under the Superior name until the early 1980s.

In 1983, Thomas Built Buses of High Point, North Carolina established the company as its exclusive dealer for South Carolina. At the time, the company name was changed to Interstate Transportation Equipment. Interstate Transportation has been a member of the Thomas Built Buses Presidents Club for Excellence in Sales and Service every year since 1984.

In 1995, Interstate Transportation Equipment participated in what is considered the largest single order for school buses. The State of South Carolina ordered a quantity of 2002 Thomas Built, 78-passenger, rear-engine buses.

Interstate Transportation Equipment is dedicated to meeting the transportation needs of school and commercial bus users throughout the Carolinas. Recent facilities expansion and the addition of two mobile service vehicles are examples of Interstate's continued commitment to serving its valued past, present, and future customers.
